Privacy policy

1. Who we are

Bishops Emporium, 4 Corn Street, Leominster, Herefordshire, HR7 8LX is the data controller for this website. You can reach us about anything in this policy through the contact page or in the shop.

2. What we collect, and why

When you place an order we collect your name, email address, delivery address and telephone number — because we need them to take your payment, deliver your order and meet our legal record-keeping duties.

If you create an account we keep your name, email address and a securely scrambled form of your password (we cannot see the password itself). If you sign in with a social account we receive only your name and email address from that provider.

If you send an enquiry we keep your message and contact details so we can answer you. If you join our newsletter we keep your email address, with your consent, until you unsubscribe.

Card payments are handled entirely by our payment provider, SumUp. Your card number never reaches us and we never store it.

We also count how the website is used — which pages are viewed, roughly how many people visit — using anonymous measurements that store no cookie or identifier on your device and cannot follow you between visits. We use these counts, under our legitimate interest in running the shop well, to see what customers enjoy.

3. Who we share it with

Only the services that make the shop work: SumUp (payments), Microsoft Azure (the systems this website runs on), our delivery carriers (your name and address, to deliver your order), and the marketplaces we also sell through where an order originates there. We never sell personal information, and we never share it for advertising.

4. How long we keep it

Order records are kept for six years, as tax law requires. Account details are kept while your account is open. Enquiries are kept for up to two years. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

5. Cookies

This site stores only what it needs to work: your basket, favourites and sign-in, kept on your own device. We count visits anonymously — no cookie or identifier is stored for it, so nobody is followed between visits, which is why this site has no cookie banner. During payment, our card provider SumUp sets the cookies it needs to take your payment securely. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or — where the law allows — ask us to delete it. Just contact us. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we would welcome the chance to put it right first.
