Terms & conditions

1. Who we are

Bishops Emporium is an independent antiques and curiosities shop at 4 Corn Street, Leominster, Herefordshire. You can reach us through the contact page on this website, or in person at the shop. "We", "us" and "our" in these terms mean Bishops Emporium; "you" means the customer.

2. These terms

These terms apply to purchases made through this website. Buying in the shop itself is a separate, in-person sale. By placing an order online you agree to these terms. Nothing in them reduces your legal rights as a consumer.

3. Ordering

Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we confirm your order by email after payment succeeds. If payment does not complete, the items are released for sale again and no contract is formed.

4. Our stock is one of a kind

Almost everything we sell is a unique, second-hand or antique piece. The item photographed is the exact item you receive. In the rare case that a piece is sold in the shop at the same moment it is bought online, we will cancel the online order and refund you in full straight away — that refund is the limit of our liability for the disappointment.

5. Prices and payment

All prices are in pounds sterling. Bishops Emporium is not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged on your order. Delivery is charged in addition and shown before you pay. Payment is taken securely by our payment provider at checkout; we never see or store your card number. If a price is plainly wrong through error, we may cancel the order and refund you rather than sell at the wrong price.

6. Delivery and collection

Delivery costs are calculated from the size and weight of your order and shown at checkout. Very large pieces are delivered by arrangement — contact us for a quote before ordering, or choose collection. Collection from the shop is free: we will email you when your order is ready, and ask that you collect it within 14 days or get in touch to arrange otherwise.

7. Your right to change your mind

For online purchases you have the legal right (under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013) to cancel your order for any reason within 14 days of receiving it, and a further 14 days to return the item. Tell us by email, through the contact page, or using your order page. Once the item is back with us we will refund you within 14 days, including our standard delivery charge. Return postage is your responsibility unless the item arrived damaged or not as described.

8. Returning an item

Please pack returns at least as carefully as they arrived — these are old and often fragile things. We may reduce a refund if an item comes back diminished by more than the careful examination you could have given it in the shop.

9. Faulty or not as described

Old things carry the marks of their age, and our descriptions and photographs set out each piece's condition honestly, including wear and repairs. Age-related wear that is described or visible in the photographs is not a fault.

10. Our liability

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care — up to the price you paid for the item plus its delivery. We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

11. Events beyond our control

If something outside our reasonable control delays an order, we will tell you as soon as we can and the affected timescales are extended accordingly.

12. The legal bits

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If you are unhappy with anything, please contact us first — we are a small shop and we will always try to put things right.
