A tall blue glazed earthenware vase, probably early 20th century, standing approximately 26 cm high with a maximum width of about 14 cm. The body is formed in six flat panels that rise to a flared square-ish neck, and it stands on a scalloped, star shaped foot that gives it presence on a shelf. Around the shoulder is a transfer ware fruit band showing apples, plums, strawberries and grapes, set between narrow black borders picked out with a small foliate motif. The glaze shows fine crazing across the white ground at the base and some scuffing where the foot has sat, evidence of genuine age that suits display. There is a small hand written number on the base. A decorative, characterful piece for a mantel, sideboard or bookcase, and easily mixed with other country ceramics.
