A compact glazed earthenware figural spill vase, marked Churchill England to the base and probably mid 20th century, measuring approximately 14 cm high by 10 cm wide. The form shows a kneeling child or putto holding a shallow, scalloped bowl which is picked out around the rim with a raised grape and foliate band. The piece is finished in a two tone brown and ochre drip glaze that settles into the moulded folds and fruit decoration, giving the relief good depth. The base has a circular vent hole and the impressed makers mark surrounds it, plainly legible. The glaze is bright and the modelling remains crisp. A handy size for a small posy, dressing table or mantel, it will suit anyone collecting mid century English ceramics or looking for a small decorative vase with character.
