Vintage, Painted metal balancing figure on iron rocker
£68.00About this piece
Vintage, hand painted metal figure of a lady with a telescope, pivots on a curved iron rocker with spherical counterweight and a separate painted metal stand. Height 55 cm on stand, width 17.5 cm, weight about 900 g.
A painted metal balancing figure, showing a woman in a red jacket and striped skirt holding a telescope. The sheet-metal figure is mounted to a curved iron arm which carries a spherical counterweight, and sits with a separate two-rod painted metal stand and circular base. Probably Mid 20th century, overall height 55 cm on its stand and about 17.5 cm across at the widest point, weight about 900 g. The hand-painted decoration remains bright, the figure rendered in a naive, folk-art style that suits a cabinet of curiosities or an eclectic mantel. The iron rocker and weight have a pitted, aged surface and the pale circular base is painted, which provides a stable display. Small paint losses are consistent with age. A characterful piece for a shelf, studio or seaside interior, and a good choice for anyone collecting vintage toys or balancing curiosities.
